New Orleans Baby Cakes News Release

Metairie, LA – Isotopes starter Justin Wayne (3-5) pitched six innings and allowed three runs on three hits and was two for four with three RBI to lead the Albuquerque Isotopes (38-42) to a 7 to 6 victory over the New Orleans Zephyrs (47-33) on Thursday Night at Zephyr Field in front of 4,428.

Albuquerque jumped out in front to a 7-0 lead keyed by Justin Wayne's 3 run double with two outs in the top of the fifth. The Zephyrs tried to manage a comeback but fell a little short. The Zephyrs scored six in the bottom of the seventh but it proved to be too little too late. Raul Chavez walked to lead off the bottom of the seventh inning and that seemed to awake the Zephyr bats. The Z's managed six runs on five hits, including a triple by Dave Matranga and a double by Jason Alfaro. But, with one out and Stanley on third the Isotopes looked to the bullpen for help in Vladimir Nunez. Nunez finished off Jason Lane and Raul Chavez and only allowed one hit the rest of the way to pick up the save for the Isotopes. Isotopes Catcher Matt Treanor went 3 for 4 and picked up one RBI to help seal the victory. Zephyrs starter Bob Scanlan (0-2) pitched five innings and allowed six runs on seven hits in the losing cause. Jason Alfaro was 2 for 4 for the Z's and picked up 1 RBI and scored 1 run.

The Isotopes stole a total of eight bases in the game and the Gerald Williams, a New Orleans native, picked up three to lead the Isotopes.
