New Orleans Baby Cakes News Release
METAIRIE-- Alan Zinter homered from both sides of the plate to lead New Orleans to a 6-5 come-back victory over Albuquerque Friday night in front of 6,886 at Zephyr Field. Zinter is the first player in Zephyr Field history to homer from both sides of the plate.
Zinter was 3-for-3 with two his ninth and tenth homeruns of the season and five RBI. His fifth-inning three-run shot to right-field against righty Scott Sanders brought the Zephyrs back from a 5-1 deficit.
After Albuquerque (38-43) brought in left-handed reliever Juan Alvarez to face Zinter in the seventh, the switch hitter moved to the right-side of the plate and hit a two-run shot to left to give New Orleans (48-33) its first lead of the series, 6-5.
Robb Stanifer (4-0) threw 1.2 innings of hitless relief to get the win. Alvarez (2-1) allowed one run and three hits in 0.1 innings to take the loss.
The Isotopes took advantage of three wild pitches by New Orleans starter Jonathan Johnson to score a run in each of the first three innings. After New Orleans scored a run in the fourth, the Isotopes scored two in the fifth to move ahead 5-1.
Royce Huffman then led off the New Orleans fifth with a single. Jason Lane grounded into a fielder's choice and replaced Huffman on the bases and Raul Chavez singled to right to set the table for Zinter.
Zinter's second blast also scored Lane who reached on a throwing error by pitcher Marty McLeary to start the inning.
Chavez and Kyle Logan each had two hits for New Orleans.
The series with Albuquerque continues tomorrow night at 6:05 p.m. It is "Fifty Cent Night" with fifty-cent draft, soft drinks, popcorn and peanuts. Fans can register to win a Busch Triton Bass Boat. Tom's House will perform a post-game concert. The game can be heard on WTIX-AM 690 and at www.zephyrsbaseball.com with Tim Grubbs and Ron Swoboda calling the action.
