New Orleans Baby Cakes News Release


Metairie, LA – The New Orleans Zephyrs, the class AAA Pacific Coast League Affiliate of the Houston Astros are pleased to announce that the Astros have recalled infielder Dave Matranga. To make room for Matranga the Astros placed Jeff Kent on the Disabled List retroactive to June 19.

Matranga, 26, is hitting .265 (52x196) with two home runs and 19 RBI in 60 games with New Orleans this season. His contract was originally purchased from the Zephyrs on May 1, and he was optioned to New Orleans the following day without appearing in a Major League game.

The Zephyrs continue a four game series with game two scheduled for tonight at 7:05 PM. against the Albuquerque Isotopes. The series with the Isotopes finishes on Sunday and then the Nashville Sounds come to New Orleans on Monday for a four game series that concludes on July 3.
