Tucson Sidewinders News Release

Tucson pitching coach Mike Parrott had a plan for Thursday's game in Las Vegas. Parrott wanted six strong innings from his starter Mike Gosling before he turned the game over to Bret Prinz in the seventh, Matt Mantei in the eighth and Brian Bruney in the ninth. The game followed that agenda to perfection in the Sidewinders 3-1 win over the 51's at Cashman Field.

Gosling worked six strong innings, allowing just one run while striking out six. The left-hander won his third straight decision to improve to 6-7.

The Sidewinders took the lead in the third inning scoring two runs on just one single. Tim Olson scored after a Luis Terrero stolen base and throwing error by the 51's catcher Koy Hill. Brian Gordon's ground out scored Terrero with the second run.

Tucson pushed the lead to 3-0 in the fourth when Doug Devore triple and later scored when Mike Bell grounded into a double play.

Bret Prinz threw a scoreless seventh in his first rehab appearance with the Sidewinders. Prinz gave up a single while striking out two. He threw 15 pitches, 11 for strikes.

Matt Mantei threw a perfect eighth inning striking out one batter. He also threw 15 pitches, 11 for strikes.

Brian Bruney threw a perfect ninth for his third save.

The Sidewinders improved to 38-40. Tucson and Las Vegas will meet Friday night (7:10 p.m.) at Cashman Field in game two of the four-game series. Edgar Gonzalez (5-2 3.74) will start for the Sidewinders against LHP Andrew Lorraine (7-3 4.09).
