LAKEWOOD, NJ - A late run in the eighth inning gave the Lake County Captains a two-run lead as they held on 4-3 against the Lakewood BlueClaws on Tuesday night.

For the first time all homestand the BlueClaws (20-18) took the early lead in the first inning as Anthony Gose led the game off with a triple to left field. He scored on the very next batter; a grounder to short off the bat of Troy Hanzawa made it 1-0.

The Captains (20-18) got on the board with two runs in the fourth and one in the fifth off of Matt Way in his first start as a BlueClaw. Way (0-1), up after pitching very well for the Williamsport Crosscutters, went seven full innings, the third starter to do so in a row, as he allowed one earned run and struck out nine. Tuesday was a very nice start to Way's career as a BlueClaw.

The BlueClaws, scored in the fourth as Travis Mattair lined a triple to left and then scored on a grounder by Vladimir De Los Santos, the same way the BlueClaws scored in the first.

Lake County added a run in the eighth off of Freddy Ballestas in his return to the bullpen and it was a very important run as the BlueClaws put a run across in the ninth and had runners on second and third with two outs. Steve Smith the Captains closer got Travis d'Aruand to strike out swinging, ending the game.

Danny Salazar (4-4) picked up the win; he went five innings and allowed two runs on six hits. He was relieved by Trey Turek and Steve Smith who held the lead.

The BlueClaws were not shot for chances in this game as they ended 1-for-15 with runners in scoring position.

The BlueClaws and the Captains will continue their five-game series and this nine-game homestand on Wednesday in the afternoon at 11:05. The BlueClaws will look to Heitor Correa (7-5) and the Captains will start Trey Haley (3-6).
