Rome, GA - The Rome Braves defeated the Savannah Sand Gnats 3-2 in "walk off" fashion Tuesday in front of 2,165 fans at State Mutual Stadium.

The Braves broke up a no hitter and took the lead in the fifth inning when Adam Coe led off with a single to left and Braeden Schlehuber laid down a bunt single. A passed ball allowed both runners to advance and Calvin Culver delivered a bases clearing double to left field giving Rome a 2-0 advantage.

Pitching held the Sand Gnats scoreless until the top of the eighth inning when Evan LeBlanc walked and Raul Reyes singled up the middle. Wilmer Flores followed with a single to center scoring LeBlanc and Reyes scored as centerfielder Calvin Culver overran the ball and made a throwing error to third to tie the game at 2-2.

In the bottom of the ninth Braeden Schlehuber singled to right to lead off the inning. A sacrifice bunt by Culver and a base hit by Shayne Moody plated pinch runner Samuel Sime and gave Rome a 3-2 walk off win.

Paul Clemens (6-5) gets the win for the Braves and Jake Goldberg (1-2) gets the loss for Savannah.

The second game of the five game series will be played tomorrow night at 7 pm. For ticket information call 706-378-5144 or log onto www.romebraves.com.
