
Late rally stopped by Fisher Cats

The Fightin Phils (57-50) tried to rally late but fell short as the New Hampshire Fisher Cats (55-49) won 9-7 on Saturday night. Nick Pivetta (0-3) lost his Fightin Phils debut as he allowed seven runs in five innings.
New Hampshire took a 2-0 lead off Pivetta in the bottom of the second inning as Kevin Nolan scored on a wild pitch and Emilio Guerrero hit a RBI double. The Fisher Cats took a 5-0 lead off Pivetta as Nolan hit a three-run home run in the bottom of the third inning.
Destin Hood got the Fightin Phils on the board off Michael Lee in the top of the fourth inning as he hit a two-run double to score Brock Stassi and Andrew Knapp that cut New Hampshire's lead to 5-2. Lee left the game after 3 1/3 innings. Hood struck again in the top of the sixth inning as he hit a RBI double off reliever Chad Girodo to cut the Fisher Cats lead to 5-3.
The Fisher Cats chased Pivetta out of the game in the bottom of the sixth inning as he walked the first two batters. Jimmy Cordero entered the game in relief, making his Fightin Phils debut. He gave up a single to Emilio Guerrero then a two-run double to Shane Opitz that gave the Fisher Cats a 7-3 lead. Guerrero scored on a wild pitch and Jorge Flores added a sacrifice fly off Cordero that extended New Hampshire's lead to 9-3.
Andrew Knapp hit a RBI double off Cory Burns in the top of the eighth inning that scored Brock Stassi and cut the Fisher Cats lead to 9-4. Angelo Mora hit a three-run home run off Burns in the top of the ninth inning scoring Harold Martinez and Brian Pointer. Both batters hit singles prior to Mora's home run.
Tom Windle and Hoby Milner each tossed scoreless innings in relief. Destin Hood finished the night 4 for 4 with two doubles and three RBI. Andrew Knapp went 3 for 4 with two runs and one RBI.
The Fightin Phils and Fisher Cats will wrap up their series on Sunday afternoon. First pitch is at 1:35 pm. Fans can listen to the game on CBS Sports Radio 1240 AM/98-5 FM and fightins.com beginning at 1:05 pm.
