New Britain Rock Cats News Release

New Britain, CT - Dean Green's bases loaded single in the 7th inning scored two runs, helping the Erie Seawolves to a come-from-behind 7-5 win over the Rock Cats Saturday night, before 4,744 fans at New Britain Stadium. Green, the Eastern League's leading hitter with a .333 average had three hits, including a home run, and four RBI.

The Rock Cats jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the first inning for the second straight game, but the Seawolves battled back against Jeff Hoffman - one of the pitchers acquired by the Colorado Rockies from Toronto in the Troy Tulowitski trade - and the rest of the Rock Cats bullpen.

Meanwhile, three Erie relievers combined to retire 17 straight batters, until New Britain mounted a two-out ninth inning rally. Dean Espy delivered an RBI double, but the comeback bid fell short when pinch hitter Will Swanner popped out on a 3-2 pitch to end the game with the tying runs on base.

"We competed and brought it back at the end to make it an interesting game," said Rock Cats manager Darin Everson.

Jan Vasquez led the New Britain attack with two hits and an RBI.

As for Hoffman, he pitched 4 2/3 innings, allowing three runs on six hits with no walks. He also drew rave reviews from Everson:

"It was good. The first time we were able to see him. We're excited from what we see. There's definitely some good stuff there. He really showed a plus breaking ball today."

The Rock Cats go for their second straight series win at home tomorrow afternoon against Erie. Game time is 1:35 PM. Left-hander Ryan Carpenter will pitch for New Britain.
