RICHMOND, Va. -- The Bowie Baysox defeated the Richmond Flying Squirrels 6-2 Sunday with two runs in each of the eighth and ninth innings to seal the victory. The win pushes the Baysox back to .500 (25-25), a level they have reached four times over the past week, but have not been able to break through.

Right-hander Tim Bascom notched a quality start with two runs allowed off five hits through 6.2 innings, as Bascom matched a season high with eight strikeouts. He retired the first 11 batters he faced, before a Thomas Neal double in the bottom of the fourth inning broke up the no-hitter.

The Baysox got on the board in the top of the third inning, with a lead-off double by left fielder Jonathan Tucker that shortstop Carlos Rojas followed with a single to left-center field to put runners on the corners. Danny Figueroa then hit safely in his fifth consecutive game with an RBI bunt single to plate Tucker. Catcher Caleb Joseph knocked a one-out single to left-center to send Rojas home from second for his 22nd RBI of the year and put the Baysox on top 2-0.

Bascom faltered in the bottom of the seventh inning, as the lead vanished with third baseman Conor Gillaspie's RBI double and a single by first baseman Andy D'Alessio that drove in Gillaspie as D'Alessio moved to third on a fielding error by right fielder Joel Guzman. The Baysox committed three errors in the game, with players like Guzman and third baseman Tyler Henson making mistakes while playing outside of their usual position, but were fortunate that none of them led to runs.

Pat Egan took the mound and escaped the inning with a ground ball to shortstop. It was another fine outing for Egan, as he have up just one hit through the final 2.1 innings and picked up the win. It was Egan's fifth win of the year, tying him for most wins in the league among relievers.

He got the win thanks to a clutch hit by first baseman Brandon Waring in the top of the eighth inning. Figueroa opened the frame with a double into left field that second baseman Ryan Adams followed with a walk off Squirrels reliever Daniel Turpen. Joseph advanced the runners into scoring position with a sacrifice bunt, before Waring cashed them in with a single to right-center field that put the Baysox on top 4-2.

More runs came in the top of the ninth, as Tucker and Rojas got aboard with a walk and an infield single to the shortstop. Adams plated both runners and added on to his team-leading doubles count with his 14th two-bagger of the year. The insurance runs provided the Baysox with a four-run cushion, that the Squirrels could not dent in the final half-inning as Bowie guaranteed at least a split of the four-game series.

The Baysox are tied for third place in the six-team Western Division, eight games behind the division-leading Altoona Curve. They will get one more crack at the second place Flying Squirrels in a 7:05 p.m. Memorial Day game.

The club returns to Bowie on Tuesday, June 1, for a six-game home stand against the Binghamton Mets and Erie SeaWolves.
