RICHMOND, Va. -- The Bowie Baysox knocked off the Richmond Flying Squirrels 3-2 in an 11-inning bout Monday night. The win pushes the Baysox one game over .500 (26-25), a level they have not been at since a May 8 loss at Trenton. Bowie is now in sole posession of third place in the six-team Eastern League Western Division, seven games out of first place, and a game behind second-place Richmond.

Starting pitcher Zach Britton took a no-decision, but turned in his third consecutive quality start, with two runs allowed off six hits through 6.1 innings.

The Flying Squirrels jumped out to a 1-0 lead in the top of the fourth inning. Center fielder Darren Ford hit a lead-off single to center field, and took advantage of a wild pitch and a ground out by right fielder Clay Timpner. He grabbed the lead off third baseman Conor Gillaspie's single up the middle of the diamond

Center fielder Danny Figueroa continued to make an impact on the Baysox after his brief stint with Triple-A Norfolk, with an RBI single to plate designated hitter Steve Lerud in the top of the sixth inning. The Baysox went on to take the lead in the top of the seventh after third baseman Brandon Waring drew a walk to lead off the inning and moved to second and then third on a fly out and wild pitch. He was driven in with a groundout by Lerud to second baseman Ryan Lormand that put the Baysox on top 2-1.

That lead didn't last long, as designated hitter Eddy Martinez-Esteve drew a leadoff walk and was replaced by Brandon Crawford as a pinch runner. Crawford moved to second on another walk and took third on a sacrifice bunt before Britton exited the mound. Right-hander Eddie Gamboa came on in relief, and couldn't stop Crawford from scoring on a sacrifice fly that tied the game at two runs apiece.

The Baysox bullpen did a fantastic job of keeping their side in the game, with 4.2 one-hit shutout innings to end the game. Right-hander Pedro Beato picked up the win, his third of the season, with one hit through 3.0 innings.

In the 11th inning, outfielder Jonathan Tucker singled to left-center field and moved to second on a passed ball. Lerud knocked a base hit into right field that advanced Tucker to third base, where he was able to score on shortstop Carlos Rojas's single to left field.

That lead held up as the Squirrels couldn't get anything going in the bottom of the 11th inning, and the Baysox walked out series winners.

They return to Bowie on Tuesday, June 1 after the 5-3 road trip for six games against the Binghamton Mets and Erie SeaWolves.
