Akron RubberDucks News Release

Sunday Setback... A night after a furious late-inning comeback, the Aeros could not duplicate the Binghamton magic in dropping 5-2 to the Mets in game three of this series. The 5,054 fans in attendance at NYSEG Stadium witnessed Akron fall behind yet again to the B-Mets offensive attack, but another comeback was not in the works. The two teams were tied at 1-1 through four innings when a Nick Evans homer for Binghamton gave the hosts a narrow one-run lead in the fifth. Evans then keyed a monster seventh inning with a two-run shot while teammate Eric Campbell made it back-to-back homers with another blast of his own. Now trailing 5-1, the Aeros looked to shock the Mets bullpen for the second night in a row but only Jared Goedert could do anything on offense against reliever Roy Merritt. Goedert hit a home run in the top of the eighth inning to provide for the final margin of the night as Merritt retired all of the other six batters he faced. B-Mets reliever Manuel Alvarez earned the win by pitching 1.2 shutout innings while Akron lefty starter Eric Berger (1-4) took his second straight loss in the contest.

Goedert Galore... The third baseman's solo homer in the eighth Sunday night continued one of the most impressive stretches in Akron Aeros history. Goedert has now hit safely in 19 consecutive contests, tied for the longest in the Eastern League this year, as he is second in the EL with a .345 batting average and third with a .561 slugging percentage. The Concordia, KS native's streak is tied for the sixth longest in all-time franchise history with middle infielder Mike Neal of the 1997 inaugural Canal Park team.

End of an Era... Leadoff left fielder John Drennen finished 0-4 at the plate Sunday against the Mets, marking the end of his own personal 12-game hitting streak. He hit .476 (20-42) with six doubles, five runs scored and five RBI during the stretch dating back to May 16. He recorded seven multi-hit performances during the stretch and now ranks eighth in the EL with a .308 average. He was a first-round selection in the June 2005 Draft by the Indians out of Rancho Bernardo High School.

May Flowers... Monday's game will mark the end of a long month of May for the Aeros. After finishing 8-13 during April, the team has followed that up by going 12-17 so far in May with one game left to go. Of the notable statistics during this month, the 4.48 ERA over these 29 games is a full run lower than the 5.49 ERA posted last month. Unfortunately, that has not helped the team out-score opponents more regularly as the Aeros allowed 28 more runs than they scored in May after losing by 23 runs in April.

Coming Up Next... The Aeros wrap up their four-game series in Binghamton today at NYSEG Stadium. After the game, the team will travel back home to Canal Park for the start of a quick three-game home stand against the Erie SeaWolves. It will be the first home series against Erie in 2010 and Akron lost two out of three back at Jerry Uht Stadium earlier this month.
