Augusta GreenJackets News Release

Augusta, Ga. - Marcus Sanders' triple to right field in the eighth inning drove in Alex Requena and gave Augusta the lead for good as the GreenJackets won their second consecutive game over Rome, 6-2. The GreenJackets added three more in the eighth inning. Simon Klink went 4-4 including two doubles and two RBIs. Anthony Moreno picked up his fifth win in relief this season, pitching two scoreless innings. Closer Brian Wilson, recently added to the Southern Division All-Star team, pitched a scoreless ninth.

Alex Requena led off the eighth with a walk off reliever Zach Schreiber. Sanders fourth triple of the season and first hit of the game gave Requena his 41st run scored this season. After Will Startup relieved Schreiber and struck out pinch hitter Jason Columbus, Brian Horwitz hit a short sacrifice fly to left, driving in the speedy Sanders. Upon catching the ball, left fielder Carl Loadenthal misplayed and muffed the baseball, allowing Horwitz to reach first. Horwitz advanced to second on Klink's single to left, his fourth hit of the game. Julian Benevidez singled to right, driving in Horwitz. Klink went to third on the play and advanced home on right fielder Ivan Terrazas errant throw back into the infield.

For his second consecutive start, GreenJackets pitcher Jonathan Sanchez was terrific. Aside from allowing two runs in the game, Sanchez struck out 11 for the second game in a row. In the fourth inning, Van Pope tripled to the wall in right-center with two outs and scored on Ivan Terrazas single to left. Carl Loadenthal hit a sacrifice fly in the fifth, driving in Cole Armstrong for Rome's second run. Sanchez gave up four hits, the two in fourth being the only ones hit hard.

Klink had the first two RBIs for the GreenJackets tonight. With two outs and Carlos Sosa on first, Klink lined a double to the wall in center, driving in Sosa. Klink's first double of the game tied the score at 1-1. After Rome took back the lead in the fifth, 2-1, once again, Klink's second double tied it in the sixth. His double off the wall in right, drove in Sosa all the way from first. Sosa would not have scored had the ball not shot passed the right fielder Terrazas.
