Greenville Drive News Release
The Greenville Bombers received word on Thursday that pitchers Harvey Garcia and Ryan Schroyer were named to the South Atlantic League's Southern Division all-star team.
The two relievers anchored the Bombers' bullpen during the first-half of the 2005 season.
Garcia and Schroyer's services became necessary after Charleston's (New York Yankees) Phil Hughes was sidelined with mild inflammation in his right shoulder and Kannapolis' (Chicago White Sox) Gio Gonzalez was called up to Winston Salem.
Garcia, a native of Venezuela, has thrived in the bullpen since being converted from a starter prior to this season. The 21-year old boasts a 3-3 record with a 2.12 ERA and 5 saves in 22 appearances this season. The hard-throwing right hander has struck out 43 batters in 34 innings while only issuing 13 walks.
Schroyer has been virtually unhittable in the month of June. The San Diego State University product has a 1-0 mark with an ERA of 0.00 in the month of June. Schroyer has allowed only 7 hits this month in 12.2 innings of work and has held opposing batters to an .159 average since Memorial Day. The 23-year old right hander is 3-2 with a 2.22 ERA and 3 saves this season.
In other Bombers' player news, second baseman Tony Granadillo was placed on the disabled list this week due to a fractured left wrist suffered in Saturday night's 5-4 victory over the Charleston RiverDogs.
The Bombers conclude a three-game series with Columbus on Thursday night at Golden Park in Columbus. Greenville returns home on Friday night against the Savannah Sand Gnats (Washington Nationals) for a three-game set before the all-star break begins on Monday. Highlights of the Bombers' upcoming home stand include Pennant Giveaway Night on Friday night for the first 1,000 children in attendance. On Saturday the team will give away window decals to the first 1,000 fans in attendance. On Sunday the team will play at 2:05 p.m. and feature "Kids Eat Free" (with the purchase of a general admission ticket) and "Kids Run the Bases".
