Late Rally Falls Short in Akron

The SeaWolves rallied but fell short on Tuesday night at Canal Park as they dropped the middle game of the series to the Akron Aeros 4-2.

Akron struck first in the last of the fourth against Erie spot starter Jared Gayhart. Nick Weglarz walked and was tripled home by Juan Diaz for a 1-0 lead.

The Aeros extended their lead in the bottom of the fifth against reliever Ryan Robowski. Jordan Henry and Roberto Perez each walked and moved to scoring position on a wild pitch. Davis Stoneburner doubled home both baserunners making it 3-0. Matt Lawson singled home Stoneburner making it 4-0.

Erie got on the board in the top of the seventh against Akron starter Matt Packer. Avisail Garcia led off and connected on a solo home run to right. The opposite field shot made it a 4-1 game. It was Erie's first long ball since July 17.

In the eighth, Jamie Johnson led off with a single, advanced to second on a groundout and scored on a two-out Rawley Bishop knock making it 4-2.

The SeaWolves threatened in the ninth, however Preson Guilmet shut the door for the Akron win.

Gayhart (1-2) took the loss allowing a run on four hits with a walk and five strikeouts.

The SeaWolves look to avoid the sweep on Wednesday night at Canal Park.7:05 First Pitch. RHP James Avery (10-7, 4.05 ERA) takes the mound for Erie against LHP Giovanni Soto (6-7, 3.72 ERA).
