Sixth Straight Win Puts Curve Back at .500

READING, Pa. - Robbie Grossman's last game as a member of the Altoona Curve was a good one as he went 2-for-3 with the go-ahead RBI in an eventual, 6-2, Curve win over Reading on Tuesday night at FirstEnergy Stadium. The win for the Curve places them at 51-51, which is the first time the team has been at .500 since they were 5-5 on April 16th.
Reading scored first on Tuesday night but it was the Curve who had the last laugh. Altoona battled back from an early 1-0 deficit to tie the game in the third on a two-out Quincy Latimore triple that brought Grossman in to tie it. Catcher Ramon Cabrera came up two batters later and continued the two-out hitting with a flare to right-center to score Latimore to put Altoona in front, 2-1.
The R-Phils tied the game off reliever Mike Colla (4-4) in the fifth when R-Phils starter Mario Hollands (2-5) grounded out to drive home Troy Hanzawa from third but that would be the last time the R-Phils scored on Tuesday.
It was Grossman that put the Curve in front in the seventh in what turned out to be his final at bat in a Curve uniform. Jeremy Farrell pinch hit for Colla with one down and doubled to put the go-ahead run at second. Grossman followed with a single to right-center that brought Farrell in and placed the Curve out in front for the remainder of the night.
Altoona added three more runs in the eighth with two of them coming on an Adalberto Santos pinch-hit double to left. Santos was pinch hitting for Grossman and drove in the final two runs of the game.
Colla earned the win in relief while Jeff Inman tossed three scoreless innings for his second save of the season. Cabrera finished the night with a multi-hit game while Santos now has five RBI in the first two games of the series.
Winners of six straight, the Curve (51-51) will try and go back over the .500 mark on Wednesday night as they'll look to sweep Reading (51-51) in the 7:05 p.m. series finale. RHP Gerrit Cole (2-3, 4.71), who looks to grab a victory for the first time since July 2 in Binghamton, will head to the hill in the series finale for the Curve. RHP Jonathan Pettibone (8-7, 3.43) is scheduled to start the finale for the R-Phils.
