FOREST CITY, N.C. - Forest City scored four runs in the seventh inning to overcome a 1-0 deficit as they defeated the Thomasville HiToms 6-2 on Tuesday night at McNair Field.
Down 1-0, Forest City (14-7) finally got on the board in the seventh as they chased HiToms reliever Austin Moyer (L, 0-4) from the game after back to back walks. Johnny Hoffman came in and after a bunt attempt by Craig Manuel was dropped by Stephen Carmon covering the bag, the game was knotted at one.
The Owls kept the momentum going as they took the lead in as the seventh continued as the Tommies walked Konstantine Diamadorus to load the bases which was followed up by a three-run double Reed Harper and after seventh Forest City had a 4-1 lead.
Thomasville (9-11) struck first in the third inning as Brock Hebert led off the frame with a double and after a walk and sacrifice bunt, there were runners at second and third with one out. Stephen Carmon proceeded to strikeout, but on the play, Hebert took off for the plate and scored when the catcher gunned down Carmon at first.
Conner Scarborough failed factor in the decision but had a great outing as he worked five shutout innings scattering two hits and fanning four while issuing just one free pass.
Forest City added a couple of insurance runs in the eighth to take a 6-1 lead to the ninth.
In the top of the final inning, Tyler Hall singled with one out and scored on the second Alex Williams double of the night, however it was too little too late as the HiToms fell to the Owls 6-2.
Thomasville is back in action tomorrow night at 7:00 when they welcome Forest City to historic Finch Field. It will be another Mighty Dollar Wednesday with hot dogs, 12 ounce beer and fountain drinks on sale for just one dollar.
