Morehead City Marlins News Release
Morehead City, N.C. - Marlins pitcher Chase Wellbrock took a no-hitter into the sixth inning and was one of six arms used by Morehead City, as the Marlins took an eleven-inning, 6-3 victory from the Wilmington Sharks in their first extra-inning game of the season.
Marlins shortstop Joe Sclafani blasted a solo home run to lead off the top of the ninth, giving Morehead City a 3-2 lead. However, the Sharks tied it in the bottom of the frame, so the second-year Marlin pulled more heroics from under his sleeve. Sclafani gapped an RBI double in the top of the eleventh that triggered the game-winning, three-run rally for the Marlins.
The other two runs were later driven in by Marlins catcher Geoff Perrott. Leadoff hitter Austin Wulf also had an exceptional evening for the Marlins, reaching base all five times he entered the batter's box.
The Marlins will ship up to Fayetteville on Tuesday, continuing their road trip to play the SwampDogs. Morehead City will trek through South Carolina, playing in Florence on Wednesday, and Columbia on both Thursday and Friday. In the Marlins' return to Big Rock Stadium next Saturday, June 25, the Marlins will host the SwampDogs for the Ladies Night Beach Bag Giveaway, sponsored by GirlTalk Gynecology. The official game time is 7:05 p.m., and gates will open at 6 o'clock, as usual.
