Late Goals Lift Royals over Titans, 4-1
February 15, 2005 - ECHL (ECHL)
Reading Royals News Release
Reading, PA â Defenseman Adam Borzecki buried the game-winning goal, on the power play, with only 7:43 remaining in regulation to boost Reading to a 4-1 win over Trenton at the Sovereign Center.
Neither team scored in the first period, despite 25 total shots, 14 of which were taken by the Royals. It was a stark contrast from the last time these division rivals met in Reading back on January 21, when the teams totaled four goals on just 20 combined shots in the first stanza of an 8-5 Royals victory.
Defenseman Beau Geisler's (1g) point shot resulted in the game's first goal, at 3:51 of the second period. Geisler's fourth of the season was assisted by forward Graig Mischler (2a) and defenseman Tom Galvin (1a) to give Reading (27-14-3) a 1-0 lead. The Titans (24-14-7) tied the match on a five-on-four power play goal with exactly six minutes left before the second intermission. Forward Brent Robinson (1g) netted his 14th of the season, as forward Scott Bertoli (1a) and defenseman Michael Schutte (1a) drew the assists. Robinson's wrist shot from the circles beat Royals' goaltender Barry Brust (32 saves) high to the short side, seconds after Trenton's four-on-three man advantage expired. After 40 minutes of play, the game was tied, 1-1.
The Titans had two golden opportunities within the first five minutes of the third period to try and take their first lead of the game. First, Brust sprawled out to deny forward Leon Hayward on a breakaway. Then moments later, Brust tipped foward Matt Zultek's offering off his right shoulder and out of play.
All of Borzecki's tallies this year have come on the man advantage and this evening's goal was his second game-winner. The game-winner was setup by defenseman Frederic Belanger (1a) and forward Mike Sandbeck (1a). Forward Jon Francisco (1g) added an insurance goal just 2:21 later with forwards Eric Fortier (1g, 1a) and Preston Mizzi (1a).
Fortier then notched his 12th of the year to seal the match, with only 1:46 left, as Reading won its third straight game. Mischler contributed the lone assist on the goal that made the score, 4-1.
Reading's next tilt is on Friday, February 18, at 7:05 p.m., as the Atlantic City Boardwalk Bullies visit the Sovereign Center.
