Idaho Steelheads News Release
BOISE, Idaho - The Idaho Steelheads announced today that vice president of business operations John Cunningham, will be leaving the organization to join the Pacific Coast League's Portland Beavers baseball team, Triple A affiliate of the San Diego Padres as president and general manager effective Friday. Long time employee and senior vice president, Eric Trapp, will assume Cunningham's responsibilities for the Idaho Steelheads.
"On behalf of the Idaho Steelheads ownership group, we want to thank John Cunningham for his years of service to both the team and the community, and wish him well in this exciting new opportunity," said A.J. Balukoff. "Eric Trapp has served as a trusted member of our management team and the owners are confident that the Steelheads will continue to be a model ECHL member under his leadership."
Trapp has held several positions with Diamond Sports (absorbed by the Idaho Steelheads earlier this season) in sales and marketing since 1991. He was promoted to vice president of Diamond Sports in 1996 and oversaw the operations of the Boise Hawks, Sioux City Explorers and El Paso Diablos baseball teams. The University of Idaho graduate was named senior vice president in 1998 and will retain that title in his role with the Idaho Steelheads.
Cunningham served as general manager of the Boise Hawks from 1993-1998, at that time a Class A short-season affiliate of the California Angels. In May 1999, he became the general manager of the Bank of America Centre, then moved to his most recent position, vice president of business operations in September 2000.
