Louisiana IceGators News Release
Greenville, SC-Playing an early morning game in front of more than 5,000 school aged children, the Louisiana IceGators gave up two power goals, as the Greenville Grrrowl swept both games against Louisiana this week, 3-1 the final.
The Greenville Grrrowl jumped out to a 1-0 lead through the first 20 minutes when veteran center Colin Pepperall converted a power play opportunity at 14:50 for his 17th of the season. After a turnover at center ice, Pepperall came in on a two on one and fired a wrist shot from the slot between the legs of Nathan Marsters for the only lamp lighter in the period.
Mark Rooneem, just reassigned from Houston, scored at 2:20 of the 2nd to tie the game at 1-1. A dump in by Patrik Nilson deflected into the slot and Rooneem went backhand past Jeff Deslauriers for his 14th of the season. The goal marked the 5th straight game that Rooneem has lit the lamp as a Gator. Greenville's power play scored again at 5:20 to put the home team back in front. Carl Mallette took a slap shop from inside the left circle, the puck hit Marsters up high and rolled over his shoulder, just barely crossing the line at the near post. Mallette's 22nd of the year gave the Grrrowl a 2-1 cushion after 40 minutes of play.
Only one goal was scored in the 3rd period. At 4:37, Mallette walked into the slot, drew the attention of Martsters and then fed Krys Barch with a perfect pass at the far post. Barch waited for Marsters to dive across, then lifted the puck over the Gators goalie for his 9th of the year and the final goal in a 3-1 Grrrowl victory. With the loss, Louisiana's record is now 17-26-4, 38 points and 5th place in the South. The Gators and Grrrowl each had 39 shots on net. Power plays were 0-9 for the Gators and 2-7 for the Grrrowl.
The Gators next game is this Friday night, as the Gators return for on their 3rd home game of 2005. The Texas Wildcatters will supply the opposition for the 7:05pm opening face off.
