Manchester Monarchs News Release

SPRINGFIELD, MA – Left wing Frantisek Lukes collected the game-winning goal with just 2:50 remaining in the third period as the Springfield Falcons edged the Manchester Monarchs, 2-1, before a crowd of 4,736 at the Springfield Civic Center on Saturday night. Center Jason Jaspers and defenseman Tom Koivisto shared assists on the eighth goal of the season for Lukes, helping the seventh place Falcons beat the second place Monarchs at "The Nest" for the fourth time in five meetings this season. The Falcons outscored the Monarchs, 18-13, in the five games.

Thanks to Lukes, the Falcons didn't waste an excellent goaltending exhibition from Jean-Marc Pelletier (10-24-5). The fifth-year pro finished with 31 saves and his 10th victory. Four of his 10 wins this season came at the Monarchs expense.

Goaltender Adam Hauser (20-15-7) took the loss for the Monarchs. He collected 20 saves.

The Monarchs trailed1-0 after one period of play, and had only themselves to blame. A costly turnover in the Monarchs zone led to left wing Darren McLachlan's first goal of the season. His quick, unassisted strike beat Hauser at 3:58.

Pelletier was the story in the scoreless middle period as he frustrated the Monarchs with several challenging saves. The former second-round pick (30th overall, 1997) of the Philadelphia Flyers totaled 13 stops in the period.

The Monarchs tied the game 3:01 into the third period with left wing Leon Hayward's second goal of the season. Center Michael Cammalleri and right wing Dan Welch, appearing in his first game since December, fed Hayward for the tally. Welch missed 46 games after undergoing shoulder surgery in January.

The Monarchs will close out the regular season against the Worcester IceCats at the Verizon Wireless Arena on Sunday, April 11 at 6:05 p.m. For ticket information, visit the Monarchs on-line at www.monarchshockey.com.
