Houston Aeros News Release

Houston, TX – The American Hockey League's Houston Aeros have increased their attendance from a previous season for the first time in their 10-year franchise history, the team announced Saturday after drawing 9,814 fans to its Fan Appreciation Night. The Aeros welcomed 214,508 through the doors of the brand-new Toyota Center. Last season, 204,990 fans saw 40 Aeros home games. Houston's average attendance this season was 5,363, higher than 2002-03's average of 5,124. The Aeros are one of 10 AHL teams with an increased attendance from 2002-03, with several more games to come Sunday.

"We are extremely proud to announce the Aeros' first ever attendance increase," said Aeros president Tom Garrity. "We got a late start last summer and had a rough schedule early, so the numbers we achieved this year are really a testament to a supportive fan base and a hard-working staff. We're very excited about our off-season and all the programs we're putting into place."

The Aeros, who were purchased by Minnesota Sports and Entertainment last summer, enjoyed a huge jump in attendance starting in mid-January. Through its first 21 games, Houston had an average of 4,359 fans. In the next 19, the Aeros averaged 6,462 – aided by two crowds that topped the 10,000 mark. Houston drew 13,342 on Boy Scout/Roger Clemens Night on January 16, the largest crowd to see an Aeros game since the 1999 Turner Cup Finals.
