Late Game Efforts Secure Victory for Blades

The road warrior Saskatoon Blades fought back to earn a 2-1 win in a shootout over the Medicine Hat Tigers on Friday night.

Burke Gallimore (Edmonton, AB) scored in regulation while Derek Hulak (Saskatoon, SK) potted the shootout winner for the Blades, who snapped a two-game losing streak in the process.

The game was scoreless until the 13:47 mark of the third period. The Tigers grabbed a 1-0 lead on Bretton Cameron's 23rd of the season when he tipped home a Mark Isherwood point shot while on the power play.

Gallimore evened the contest in clutch fashion from the slot in front of the Tigers' net, picking up his 10th of the season with just 24.6 seconds left on the clock in regulation time.

The game went scoreless in the overtime period and headed to the shootout.

- Cameron tried to beat Blades' goaltender Steven Stanford (Calgary, AB) with a deke and sent the puck wide of the net

- Gallimore went first for the Blades and had his low wrist shot stopped by Tigers' goaltender Deven Dubyk

- Tristan King came up empty handed after trying get one past Stanford's left pad

- Jeremy Boyer (Saskatoon, SK) was denied by Dubyk in the next Blades' attempt

- Wacey Hamilton elected to try for Stanford's right side on the Tigers' third attempt and was stopped

- Charles Inglis (Saskatoon, SK) tried a snap shot on his attempt and missed the Tigers' net

- In similar fashion, Mark Isherwood of the Tigers missed the Blades' net

- Finally on the Blades' fourth attempt of the shootout, Hulak secured the victory with a nifty shot past Dubyk

Final score Saskatoon Blades 2, Medicine Hat Tigers 1 (SO).

Stanford turned aside 25 shots in regulation and all 4 shots in the shootout to earn the win between the pipes for the Blades. Dubyk stopped 30 of 31 shots in regulation and 3 of 4 shots in the shootout at the Tigers' end.

With the victory, the Blades go to 21-5-0-3 for 45 points on the season and remain in first in the East Division, five points up on the second place Brandon Wheat Kings. The Tigers drop to 16-10-2-4 for 36 points on the campaign.

The Blades wrap up their road trip tomorrow night in Red Deer against the Rebels. Game time is 8:30 pm (Sask. Time). 92.9 The Bull will have all the action with play-by-play man Les Lazaruk. Fans can also tune into the game on WHL WebTV.
