Brandon Wheat Kings News Release
Brandon, Manitoba -- The Western Hockey League's Brandon Wheat Kings have annoucned that 17-year old forward Wheaton King has been reassigned to the AAA Midget Wheat Kings.
King appeared in ten games for the Wheat Kings this season, scoring once and registering a -1 plus / minus rating. As well, the 6'2" 184 lb. Brandon product had seven minutes in penalties.
As a member of the Midget Wheat Kings in 2008-09, King finished among the league leaders with thirty goals and 73 points in 42 regular season games.
A sixth round pick of the Wheat Kings in the 2007 WHL Bantam Draft, King is one of several Brandon draft picks on the AAA Midget Wheat Kings' roster. The others are Tanner Jago, Josh Elmes and Austin Lewis. Cody Nelson meanwhile was listed by the Western League club immediately following last spring's draft in Edmonton.
As a result of Friday's move, the Wheat Kings now have 24 players on their active roster - two goalkeepers, seven defencemen and 15 forwards. On the ice, the Wheat Kings begin a 2-game weekend road trip Friday night in Prince Albert against the Raiders. Losers of both games to the Raiders this season, the Wheat Kings enter the weekend with a record of 18-11-0-2, good for second place in the Eastern Division and winners of five of their last six games.
Brandon's next home game is one week from tonight - Shoppers Mall Teddy Bear Toss Night - against the defending WHL Champion Kelowna Rockets. Tickets to that game are on sale now at the Keystone Centre box office, by calling 726-3555 or online at ticketmaster.ca.
