August 13, 2019 - Canadian Football League (CFL)
Last week the Albany Empire won ArenaBowl 32 by defeating the Philadelphia Soul 45-27, Atlanta United FC striker Josef Martinez set a Major League Soccer record with ten straight games with a goal and the Portland Thorns set a National Women's Soccer League attendance record of 25,218 fans in their 2-1 victory over the North Carolina Courage. Highlights from this week are from the Canadian Football League, XFL, Arena Football League, Major League Soccer, International League, Appalachian league, Carolina League, Women's National Basketball Association, Big3, and Premier League Lacrosse.
The Edmonton Eskimos announced Chris Presson as the club's new president and CEO. His term will begin on Sept. 1, 2019. Presson joins the Green and Gold after spending the past five years as president of the Arizona Rattlers in the Indoor Football League. At the same time, he served as president of the Northern Arizona Suns - the development team for the NBA's Phoenix Suns, launched by Presson in 2016.
The BC Lions Football Club announced that legendary receivers Geroy Simon and Darren Flutie are the BC Lions Wall of Fame inductees for 2019. This year's ceremony will take place during halftime of the Lions' tilt versus Hamilton on Saturday, August 24.
In the CFL, it's the year of the return.
Winnipeg Blue Bombers Janarion Grant with 83-yard punt return for a touchdown against the Calgary Stampeders.
Montreal Alouettes Shakeir Ryan with a 101-yard punt return for a touchdown against the Saskatchewan Roughriders.
Hamilton Tiger-Cats Frankie Williams with a 108-yard kickoff return for a touchdown against the BC Lions.
XFL Commissioner and CEO Oliver Luck this week will start to invite an exclusive list of top free-agent players to be part of the league's first draft pool. The XFL will conduct its first player draft in October and include current and former professional football players. Each of the league's eight teams will draft 70 players.

Arena Football League
The Albany Empire defeated the Philadelphia Soul, 45-27, in front of 12,042 fans at the Times Union Center at ArenaBowl 32. The Empire capped off their championship run by winning all three post-season games as the top seed.

Philadelphia Soul head coach Clint Dolezel was named 2019 Moss-Marcum Head Coach of the Year, marking the third time in his career that he's won the award. Dolezel becomes just the second three-time winner in league history, joining fellow Arena Football League Hall of Famer Perry Moss.
The Arena Football League today announced nine-year AFL veteran, Albany Empire QB Tommy Grady, earned the MVP award after another phenomenal season in the League. This is Grady's second- consecutive MVP award, and third MVP honor of his career, which he first received in 2012.
For the second year in a row, the season has ended early for Mets farmhand and former Heisman Trophy winner Tim Tebow. The 31-year-old outfielder will miss the rest of the Triple-A Syracuse campaign due to a laceration on his left hand that he suffered fielding a ball in a July 23 game against Toledo and required stitches.
Arturo Reyes, Ricardo Pinto, Jose Alvarado and Hoby Milner combined to record a no-hitter, as the Durham Bulls defeated the Syracuse Mets 2-1. It was the Bulls sixth no-hitter in their history.
Pacific Coast League
The San Jose Giants established a new team record for runs scored in a home game with their 20-5 series-opening victory over the Modesto Nuts. The Giants eclipsed the previous team mark of 19 runs in a home game set back in 1994.
Johnson City Cardinals broadcaster Joey Zanaboni is on a different wavelength.

Major League Soccer
All six goals between Los Angeles Football Club and New York Red Bulls.
MLS record ten straight games with a goal. Atlanta FC striker Josef Martinez is unreal.
National Women's Soccer League
Orlando Pride defender Toni Pressley has been diagnosed with breast cancer and has begun treatment the Club announced. Pressley underwent surgery on Friday morning at Orlando Health and has been placed on the 45-Day Disabled List.
Portland Thorns FC rallied back after allowing an early goal, creating two second-half goals to earn a 2-1 against the North Carolina Courage in front of a sellout crowd - the largest crowd in NWSL history of 25,218 fans at Providence Park.
Women's National Basketball Association
Phoenix Mercury center Brittney Griner dunks against the Dallas Wings.
Tri State Nate Robinson makes game winning three point shot against the Power.
"The NBA shoved me out a long time ago, man, and Ice Cube opened the doors for me, so I'm here to stay." Tri State Nate Robinson is playing for the love of the game.
NBA G League
The Memphis Grizzlies today announced that Jason March has been named head coach of the Memphis Hustle, the Grizzlies' NBA G League affiliate. In a related move, former head coach Brad Jones was named to the Grizzlies assistant coaching staff under new head coach Taylor Jenkins. March, a graduate of Florida State University, previously spent nine seasons in Memphis (2007-16), including two seasons as assistant coach/advance scout for the Grizzlies.
The Indy Fuel, proud ECHL affiliate of the NHL's Chicago Blackhawks and the AHL's Rockford IceHogs announced that they have hired former ECHL All-Star Andy Contois as the club's assistant coach. Contois joins Head Coach and General Manager Doug Christiansen as full-time members of the Fuel coaching staff.
National Women's Hockey League
The defending Isobel Cup champions just got even stronger. Audra Richards, the NWHL All-Star who was raised in the State of Hockey, played for the Minnesota Thoroughbreds and attended Tartan High School, has signed with the Minnesota Whitecaps. Last season, the forward tied Madison Packer with a team-high 8 goals for the Metropolitan Riveters.
National Pro Fastpitch
It only took five innings for the Chicago Bandits to defeat the Beijing Eagles, 9-1. With the victory and a loss by the USSSA Pride, the Bandits clinched the regular season title for the first time since 2013.
