Las Vegas Wranglers News Release
Las Vegas, Nev- The Las Vegas Wranglers fell to the Alaska Aces Saturday night in front of 4,245 at Sullivan Arena. Jamie Bates, Ryan Huddy, and Justin Bernhardt all tallied for Las Vegas in the defeat while goaltender Joe Fallon turned away 28 of 32 and falls to 7-6-1 on the season. Aces' goalie Gerald Coleman takes the win stopping 19 of 22 and improves his record to 16-7-1. Las Vegas went 0 for 4 on their power play opportunities while the Aces managed to go 1 for 2 on their chances. Shots on net seemed to be the problem for the Wranglers during their three-game set with the Aces. In the last nine regulation periods Las Vegas managed double digit shots only once and in came in the final period of Saturday night's game. The Aces continue on their ten-game point streak and are currently second in the Mountain division with a record of 21-9-2 and 44 total points. With the defeat the Wranglers fall to 18-9-3 overall and are now tied with the Bakersfield Condors for first place in the Pacific division with 39 points.
Alaska opened the bidding with Mark Isherwood's power play goal at 3:25 of the first period assisted by Daryl Boyle and Wes Goldie. Las Vegas answered back at 5:27 of the first period when Ryan Huddy tallied his seventeenth goal of the season assisted by Jamie Bates. Kory Falite took the lead back for the Aces at 16:09 of the first period with his sixth goal of the season assists going to Daryl Boyle and Chris Langkow. The Aces took a two-goal lead one minute and thirty seconds later with Ethan Cox's sixth goal of the season assisted by Jerad Stewart and Maxime Tanguay. After one period of play the Aces were on top 3-1 and had quadrupled the number of Wranglers' shots, 12-3.
Las Vegas' Justin Bernhardt tallied his first goal of the season half way through the second period with no help to bring the Wranglers back within one. Alaska's Maxime Tanguay stretched the lead back out with his third goal of the season at 11:34 of the second period assists going to Daryl Boyle and Ethan Cox. After two periods of play the Aces were still up by two goals, 4-2, and were still leading in the shots category, 23-11.
The Wranglers would not lay down coming back to the third period trailing by two goals. Jamie Bates brought Las Vegas back within one with his tenth goal of the season at 7:22 assisted by Jamie Fritsch and new addition Phillip Ischi, but unfortunately the Wranglers needed one more tally to force at least overtime. The Aces took advantage of the Wranglers empty-net strategy with Wes Goldie's twenty-first goal of the season to seal the regulation win for Alaska, 5-3.
The Wranglers now head to Victoria for a two-game set on January 11th and 12th. The Wranglers will return home to host the Ontario Reign January 14th. Alaska will be in Las Vegas for a three-game set starting January 15th.
The Las Vegas Wranglersé are the ECHL affiliate to the National Hockey League's Phoenix Coyotes and the American Hockey League's San Antonio Rampage.
2010-11 season seat packages are on sale now at (702) 471-PUCK. The Wranglers play all 36 regular season home games at the Orleans Arena, located adjacent to the Orleans Hotel and Casino at 4500 W. Tropicana Avenue.
