Elmira Jackals News Release

The Elmira Jackals (16-12-5-0) were shut out at home for the first time in two years on Sunday as they fell to the Reading Royals (22-9-2-0), 2-0. Royals goaltender Michael Hutchinson made 30 saves for his first career shutout.

After a scoreless first period, Tyler Murovich scored his first goal as a Royal by deflecting a puck in from outside the crease at 9:04 of the second period to make it 1-0.

In the third period, Alain Goulet wristed a puck in from the left circle past Daren Machesney, who took the loss despite making 33 saves on 35 shots, to increase Reading's lead to 2-0.

Hutchinson improved to 2-0-1-0 with Reading while Machesney fell to 1-5-0-0 with Elmira.

The Jackals' last home shutout loss was two years ago to the date, Jan. 9, 2009, when they fell 3-0 to the Johnstown Chiefs at First Arena. Elmira played in 75 regular-season home games with at least a goal since that point.

Elmira heads to Toledo for a game on Wednesday night against the Walleye.
