Utah Grizzlies News Release
West Valley City, Utah - The Las Vegas Wranglers scored two third period goals in 48 seconds to snap a 2-2 tie and they added a late empty-netter to beat Utah 5-2 Saturday at Maverik Center before 5,118 fans.
Utah's T.J. Battani dropped the gloves with Las Vegas' Judd Blackwater off of the opening face-off which set Utah's tone for the evening as the two teams battled for the fourth time in eight nights.
"#23 on their team embarrassed (Evan) Stoflet last night, challenged him, put a hand in his face," said Grizzlies Head Coach Kevin Colley. "It's a man's game, you can't pick and choose your battles all of the time. T.J. did a good job for us." Blackwater did not return to the game following the fight two seconds into the contest.
The Grizzlies built a 1-0 first period lead as Riley Armstrong buried his 15 th goal 12:48 into the game as he worked up ice and scored on his second effort as he took a centering pass from behind the net from Tyler Maxwell.
Utah made it 2-0 as Armstrong fed Mark Isherwood in the high-slot for a cannon on the power-play that made it 2-0 Utah 1:24 into the second period. The Wranglers, 38 seconds later, made it 2-1 as they turned a Utah four-on-two up ice into an odd-man rush and made it 2-1.
Las Vegas Head Coach Ryan Mougenel had a lengthy conversation with referee Brett Sheva right before the second period started after Utah drew six of nine power-plays in the first period. The Wranglers collected six of the final eight power-plays to finish the game. Utah went 9-9 on the penalty-kill in the contest and killed four-straight minutes midway through the second.
"We had some great scoring chances the first 40 minutes, we need guys to bare down and be ready to score," said Colley.
Utah hosts Bakersfield Friday and Saturday with more buy-one-get-one-free entrees from Angelina's Little Italy and El Pasado Cantina. Saturday is Guns N Hoses Night. Visit www.utahgrizzlies.com for more information.
