Gladiators Fall to Kalamazoo 4-3 in a Shootout

Rylan Galiardi scored with just seven seconds left in the third period to help the Gwinnett Gladiators capture a point in a 4-3 shootout loss to the Kalamazoo Wings on Sunday afternoon at the Arena at Gwinnett Center.
Galiardi took a rink wide pass from Doug Jones on the door step and pumped the tying goal home to send the game to overtime. Alex Belzile collected an assist on the third period marker for Gwinnett.
After a scoreless overtime period, Belzile scored the only shootout goal for Gwinnett in the second round while the the Wings won it with goals by John Armstrong and Sam Ftorek in rounds three and nine respectively.
Jones open the scoring as he put Gwinnett up 1-0 just 4:20 into the first period. Belzile collected an assist on the goal to extend his point-scoring streak to five games.
Kalamazoo answered halfway through the first period. Armstrong ripped a shot through traffic that deflected off a Gladiators defenseman and past netminder Louis Domingue for the goal. Armstrong's marker came unassisted for Kalamazoo.
Andy Brandt beat Kalamazoo netminder Joel Martin with 2:48 left in the first period. Brandt's seventh goal of the season came shorthanded for the Gladiators. John Scrymgeour collected a helper on the goal.
Kalamazoo scored the only goal of the second period just 3:34 into the period. Nick Sirota was able to slip the puck past Domingue for the marker. Armstrong collected his second point of the night with an assist on the goal.
Kalamazoo took their first lead of the game early in the third period on Sirota's second marker of the game. Alexandre Grenier and Armstrong collected the assists on the goal 7:49 into the third period.
Domingue finished with 23 saves in the shootout loss for the Gladiators as Gwinnett went 1-for-3 on the power play in the loss.
Gwinnett is back in action on Tuesday as they travel to South Carolina to take on the Stingrays at 7:05 p.m.
