West Michigan Whitecaps News Release

COMSTOCK PARK - For the second game in a row, Lansing scored 11 runs in a victory over the Whitecaps. The Lugnuts are on the verge of a four game sweep following an 11-3 win Saturday at Fifth Third Ballpark. Lansing took Friday's game, 11-2. A Whitecaps starting pitcher gave up a large chunk of runs for the second straight day. Josh Rainwater was touched for nine runs in just 2.1 innings pitched. The Whitecaps bullpen allowed two runs over the final six-plus innings of the game. Ian Ostlund pitched three perfect innings out of the bullpen. Josh Lee launched a three-run homer in the seventh for the Whitecaps to break up the shutout. The opposite field blast to left was the only hit of the inning and Lee's fourth homer this year. He finished 2-for-4, including a two-out single in the ninth. Lansing starter A. J. Wideman held the Whitecaps to just two hits during the first six innings of the game. West Michigan shortstop Nick McIntyre saw his 16-game hitting streak come to an end as he went 0-for-4. For the second game in a row, every Lugnut in the starting lineup collected a hit. Eugenio Velez led the Lugnuts with three RBI, including two on a single in the eighth, when Lansing scored eight times and sent 12 batters to the plate. Luis Sabino drew all three walks issued by Lansing pitchers.

Avoiding the Sweep: West Michigan will look to avoid a four game sweep at the hands of Lansing in the series finale Sunday afternoon. RHP Andrew Kown (3-6, 4.63) will be on the mound for the Whitecaps against Lansing LHP Jordan Timm (NR). First pitch is at 7:00 p.m. The Eikenhout Incorporated Pre Game Show begins at 1:50 p.m. on 1340 AM WBBL, the Whitecaps Radio Network and at mlive.com.
