Southwest Michigan Devil Rays News Release
BATTLE CREEK, Mich. -- The Southwest Michigan Devil Rays brought in the Dallas Cowboys Cheerleaders but it wasn't enough to overcome the South Bend Silver Hawks in a 6-3 loss Saturday night.
Rays shortstop Reid Brignac had two singles and a solo home run while scoring three times on the night. Chris Nowak drove Brignac home in the first and third innings. Brignac also picked up his third stolen base of the season.
A.J. Shappi won his league leading 11th game for South Bend as the Devil Rays walked six and allowed eight hits. Jarrad Lavergne suffered his seventh loss despite tossing seven innings and allowing four runs. He was aided by double-plays in each of the first three innings.
The Dallas Cowboys Cheerleaders performed before and during the game and signed autographs for many of the 2,555 fans at C.O. Brown Stadium.
The Devil Rays will send LHP James Houser (4-4, 3.49) to the mound on Sunday against South Bend's Ross Ohlendorf (4-5, 4.90) as both teams end their first series of the second half. Prior to Sunday's game, Jack Pearl's Team Sports is sponsoring the second and final youth clinic of 2005. Devil Rays coaches and players will run the clinic from 11:30 a.m. until 12:30 p.m. Check-in for the clinic begins at 11 a.m. Cost is $7 for children and this includes the price of a general admission ticket to the game.
