Burlington Bees News Release
Burlington, IA - Mark Zamojc's grand slam in the top of the first inning set the tone as the Beloit Snappers (3-0, 36-37) made it three in a row with an 8-2 win over the Burlington Bees (0-3, 34-39) at Community Field tonight. The Bees have lost three in a row for the sixth time this year, their longest losing streak of the season.
Bees' starter Luis Cota (2-4) is now 0-2 against the Snappers this year. Leading up to the grand slam, Luke Hughes hit a chopper up the third base line that Cota fielded, but threw over the head of Rusty Brown and down the right field line allowing Hughes to go all the way to third. Cota walked the next two batters to load the bases before Zamojc hit his fifth homer of the season. Zamojc has 8RBI in this series. After the next two batters reached on a single and an error, Cota got a strikeout and a popout to end the inning and retired the next eight in a row before walking Dwayne White to start the fourth inning. Kory Feiner followed with a single and the two moved to second and third on a passed ball. Tarrance Patterson then launched a three-run homer to left, and the Snappers led 7-0. Cota would work just four innings tonight to match his shortest start of the season. Justin Sherman pitched four scoreless innings in relief. Greg Atencio allowed the final run on a wild pitch in the top of the ninth.
Snappers' starter Kyle Waldrop (4-5) allowed just one run in seven innings for the win. In two starts against the Bees, he has allowed two runs (one earned) in 13 innings. The Bees run came in the bottom of the fourth. With two outs, Brian McFall, Mario Lisson, and Eddie Solis singled to load the bases. The hit for Solis snapped an 0-30 streak at the plate. McFall would score on a wild pitch before Waldrop got out of the inning. McFall would blast a solo homer off of Kevin Culpepper in the bottom of the eighth for the Bees other run. McFall finished 4-4 in the game to set a season-high and match a career-high for hits. Angel Garcia finished off the ninth for Beloit. Irving Falu singled in the seventh and doubled in the ninth to extend his hitting streak to 13 in a row.
The Bees need a win tomorrow afternoon to avoid being swept for the first time this season. RH Kyle Crist (4-1, 5.06) will start for the Bees against RH Anthony Swarzak (7-3, 2.80) for the Snappers. Tomorrow is Little League Recognition Day sponsored by The Hawk Eye. All Little League teams are invited to arrive in uniform at noon to check in and lineup for a pre-game parade to start at 12:30. Every team that participates in the parade will also get to select one player to participate in the Century 21 Home Run Derby. Participants will be divided up by age and aim for special boundaries to mark home runs in the outfield. All Little Leaguers and Boy and Girl Scouts in uniform get in free. Anyone who brings a church bulletin to the ticket window will get $2 off for each member of their family. Kids can run the bases after the game and all of the Bees will be available to sign autographs outside the dugout after the game. The game will be broadcast live on KBUR AM 1490 and KBKB AM 1360 with the pre-game show starting at 1:40.
