Omaha Lancers News Release
The Omaha Lancers went 4-for-6 on the power play Friday evening in dropping the Lincoln Stars 5-4 at the Lincoln IceBox. With the win, the Lancers improved to 24-6-1 on the year and remain atop both the West Division and USHL standings with 49 standings points. The Lancers are now 2-0 against the Stars this season.
Omaha grabbed the game's opening marker just better than six minutes into the contest when Danny Mattson orchestrated a beautiful move down the left wing to set up Troy Power's 11th goal of the season. The power play marker, which was Omaha's league-leading 45th man advantage tally of the year, came 6:07 into period one. Lincoln responded seven and a half minutes later when Ben Lynch's left wing wrist shot produced a rebound off to the right side that was promptly stashed home by Ryan Dzingel. Brodie Reid grabbed the other assist on the man advantage tally scored 13:41 into the period. The Stars then grabbed their first and only lead of the night 2:03 later when Josh Berge cashed in on a shorthanded 2-on-1 with Lynch for his 4th goal of the season and Lincoln's 4th shorthanded marker of the year.
After a series of golden scoring opportunities throughout the 2nd period, the Lancers evened the game late in period two when Tom Craig wristed home his 2nd goal of the season. Mathieu Brisson and Anthony Hamburg earned the two assists on the 5-on-5 marker, which proved to be Omaha's only even strength goal of the game. The Lancers then regained the lead at 3-2 late in the middle stanza when Ryan Daugherty redirected Dakota Eveland's right point feed between the pads of Lincoln's Jared Coreau. Brisson grabbed the secondary helper on Daugherty's 13th goal of the season.
Omaha extended its lead to 4-2 midway through the 3rd period when Seth Ambroz redirected Dennis Brown's point shot on the power play for his 13th goal of the season. Matt White registered the second assist on Ambroz's league-leading 9th man advantage marker of the year. Lincoln didn't quit though and crawled back to within a single goal just 1:55 later when Cory Hibbeler pinched in from the point in firing home just his 2nd goal of the season. The Lancers bounced right back, however, and used the man advantage once again to get on the board as Dakota Eveland used a Lincoln giveaway in its defensive zone to register his 8th goal of the season. The Stars closed the margin to 5-4 when, with the goaltender pulled, Brodie Reid chipped in his 10th goal of the season, but that would prove to be as close as Lincoln would get.
Omaha's Jeff Teglia earned his league-leading 18th victory of the season in goal turning aside 31 of Lincoln's total shots. Meanwhile, Jared Coreau fell to 5-10-1 on the year after registering just 32 saves on Omaha's 37 shots.
The Lancers are back in action tomorrow evening as their weekend road trip continues with a visit to Des Moines to battle the Buccaneers.
