Heat Up at Home

Waterloo Black Hawks News Release

With more goals on the scoreboard than degrees on the thermometer, the Waterloo Black Hawks downed team USA 3-0 at Young Arena Friday.

C.J. Motte's 28 save whitewash may have been a particularly appropriate ending to a week which saw a snow, ice, and frigid temperatures near zero in the Cedar Valley. The Black Hawk netminder and defense had a particularly notable night penalty-killing, stopping all eight Team USA chances.

The game was scoreless for more than 35 minutes until J.T. Brown delivered a big hit to free the puck in the offensive zone. The check set up a Brock Montpetit wrap-around, which slid through the crease, back to Brown, who flipped it into the open side at 15:14 of the second. Tyler Barnes added to the lead in the third, squeaking in a rebound chance during a power play at 7:51. Nick Ebert capped the scoring at 14:15.

The Black Hawks host the Chicago Steel Saturday before visiting Chicago on Sunday afternoon. The game at Young Arena begins at 7:05, and the first 2,000 fans will receive a Waterloo Black Hawks Olympic Team commemorative poster from Karen's Print Rite and Pro Sign.
