Four Stampede Players Named To USHL All-Star Game

Sioux Falls, SD-Four Stampede players have been named to the 2010 USHL All-Star Game, the United States Hockey League (USHL) announced today.

Chad Ruhwedel, Mike Voran, Matt Lindblad and Clay Witt will represent the Stampede and the West Division at the game on January 26th in Indianapolis, Indiana. The game will take place at the Pepsi Coliseum, home of the Indiana Ice at 6:00 PM (Central Time).

The teams were chosen by division, with one team representing the East Division and the other team representing the West Division. Each team will consist of 20 players - two goaltenders, six defensemen and 12 forwards. Players were selected by a vote of the league's coaches, general managers and input from NHL Central Scouting.

Stampede players have had a history of success at USHL All-Star Games, taking home MVP honors five times in the club's 10-year history (Rick Gorman in 1999, Thomas Vanek in 2001, Jim McKenzie in 2003, Andreas Nodl in 2005 and Corey Tropp in 2006).

Ruhwedel is in his second season with the Stampede and has served as team captain since the beginning of the season. The San Diego, CA native has recorded nine points (2g, 7a) in 26 games and is tied for the team lead in the plus/minus category with a plus-12 rating.

Ruhwedel, who has already committed to UMass-Lowell, tallied his first career USHL goal on October 16th in a win over Waterloo. He posted 11 assists and was a plus-12 in 55 games with the Herd last season.

Voran was the Herd's first round selection (6th overall) during the 2009 USHL Draft. He currently leads the team in scoring with 34 points (14g, 20a) in 28 games and is a plus-11 on the season.

The Livonia, MI native spent last season playing in the North American Hockey League (NAHL) where he led the Wenatchee Wild in scoring with 56 points (24g, 32a) in 55 games. In the playoffs, Voran finished tied for first in the NAHL with 22 points (9g, 13a) in 13 games while leading the Wild to the NAHL championship game.

Lindblad is in his first season with the Stampede, but second in the USHL. He spent last season playing for the Chicago Steel where he recorded 25 points (5g, 20a) in 51 games.

The Winnetka, IL native ranks second on the team in scoring this season with 32 points (10g, 22a) in 25 games and is a plus-7. He leads the team with six powerplay goals. Lindblad has already committed to play collegiate hockey at Dartmouth College.

Witt is in the midst of his second season with the Herd. He ranks fifth overall amongst USHL goaltenders with a 10-3-3 record, a 2.55 GAA and a.907 save percentage. He is tied for the league lead with three shutouts on the season.

Witt went 8-6-2 with a 2.99 GAA and a.907 save percentage in 18 appearances last season with Sioux Falls. He will attend Northeastern University in the fall of 2010.

Ruhwedel, Voran, Lindblad, Witt and the Stampede return to action this weekend at home when the Stampede host Tri-City on Saturday and Omaha on Sunday.
