LaMura Named Pitcher of Week
August 2, 2010 - Eastern League (EL1)
New Hampshire Fisher Cats News Release
New Hampshire Fisher Cats starting pitcher B.J. LaMura (5-3, 4.31) has been named Eastern League Pitcher of the Week for the span ending Sunday, August 1. The 29-year old from Mineola, New York posted two wins for the Fisher Cats in his two starts, totaling 12 innings of work and a 0.75 ERA. The starter recorded six shutout innings in an 8-3 victory over the Harrisburg Senators at Merchantsauto.com Stadium on July 26, allowing just one hit, while striking out six and walking one. On July 31, LaMura again went six solid innings, striking out seven batters and allowing just three hits and two walks in a 6-1 New Hampshire triumph at Trenton. The right-handed hurler finished the week ranked second among all Eastern League pitchers in strikeouts with 13 and WHIP at 0.58.
LaMura was acquired by the Toronto Blue Jays on February 26, 2010 when he signed as a minor league free agent. The 6'1", 200-pound product out of Clemson University was originally selected in the fifth round of the 2002 draft by the White Sox. LaMura's career highlights also include pitching for team Italy in the 2009 World Baseball Classic, and being an integral part of the trade that sent him to the Dodgers organization for catcher Sandy Alomar Jr. in July, 2006.
LaMura becomes the seventh Fisher Cats player to earn player of the week honors in 2010, following fellow pitchers Jo-Jo Reyes (July 18), Luis Perez (April 18) and Kyle Drabek (July 4), outfielders Darin Mastroianni (May 9) and Adam Calderone (May 16), as well as infielder Shawn Bowman (June 7).
The Fisher Cats will be in first place when they open a six-game homestand starting Tuesday at Merchantsauto.com Stadium. New Hampshire will host the only two teams yet to visit Manchester this season in Richmond and Bowie. Tuesday marks Community College System of NH Summer Reading Night, Franco/American Night, and Kraft Singles Night at the ballpark. Bring a Kraft Singles wrapper to the ticket office to receive a Buy-one ticket, Get-one ticket offer. For tickets, call (603) 641-2005 or visit nhfishercats.com.
