Eastern League Announces Weekly Award Winners

The Eastern League is pleased to announce the winners of the Eastern League Player of the Week Award and Eastern League Pitcher of the Week Award for the week ending August 1st:

Binghamton Mets third baseman Zach Lutz has been named the Eastern League Player of the Week for the week ending August 1st. The 6'1", 220 lb. slugger did not miss a beat in his return to the B-Mets following an extended stay on the disabled list, hitting .476 with two doubles, five home runs, 11 RBI, 10 runs scored, three walks and a 1.286 slugging percentage in five games. Lutz, who is a native of Reading, Pennsylvania, homered in four out of the five games he played in last week, including going 2-for-4 with a pair of long balls and four RBI in an 8-3 win at Erie on Sunday afternoon. He also scored at least one run in all five games he played in last week and drove in multiple runs in four out of five games. The 24-year old ranked first among all of the players in the Eastern League in a number of offensive categories last week, including leading the league in home runs (5), extra-base hits (7), total bases (27), RBI (11), runs scored (10), slugging percentage (1.286) and OPS (1.827). Zach, who is hitting .293 with eight doubles, 13 homers, 33 runs scored and 28 RBI in 40 games with Binghamton this season, was selected by the New York Mets in the fifth round of the 2007 draft out of Alvernia College in Reading, Pennsylvania.

B.J. LaMura, a right-handed starting pitcher for the New Hampshire Fisher Cats, is the Eastern League Pitcher of the Week for the week ending August 1st. The 29-year old made a pair of starts for the Fisher Cats last week and posted a record of 2-0 with 13 strikeouts and a 0.75 ERA. LaMura, who is a native of Mineola, New York, made his first start of the week on Monday night and allowed just one hit and one walk while striking out six batters over six shutout innings to earn a win as the Fisher Cats downed the Senators 8-3 at Merchantsauto.com Stadium. The 6'1", 200 lb. hurler made his second appearance of the week on Saturday night at Trenton and pitched six solid innings in a 6-1 New Hampshire victory. He struck out seven batters while surrendering just one run on three hits and two walks to improve his record to 5-3 on the season. LaMura ranked second among all Eastern League pitchers in strikeouts (13) last week and had the third best WHIP (0.58) in the league. Lance, who previously spent time in the Chicago White Sox and Los Angeles Dodgers organizations, was signed by the Toronto Blue Jays on March 22, 2010. He was originally drafted by the White Sox in the fifth round of the 2002 draft out of Clemson University.
