Lambson Stellar Again as Goldeyes Top Cleburne

WINNIPEG, MB - The Winnipeg Goldeyes beat the Cleburne Railroaders 7-1 at Shaw Park on Tuesday night.

Goldeyes' starting pitcher Mitchell Lambson (7-3) picked up the win, allowing one earned run on seven hits over seven and one-third innings. Lambson walked one, struck out three, and threw just 88 pitches.

"Tonight, I honestly felt a little tired early on," said Lambson. "I didn't try to overthrow, and just worked with what I had. Baker did a really good job calling the game, as he usually does, and I just let the defence work behind me. The defence made some great plays. We turned a couple of double plays, Reggie made a great catch in centre, and Romanski had a good catch. All around, it was a good defensive effort and a good team win."

Tied at 1-1 in the bottom of the fifth, Josh McAdams blooped a single into shallow right field that scored Josh Romanski with the go-ahead run. Reggie Abercrombie went first to third on the play and raced home when the throw from right field went to second base.

In the bottom of the sixth, Tucker Nathans drew a leadoff walk and scored from first on a double down the left field line from Dexter Kjerstad. Jordan Ebert singled Kjerstad to third before Tyler Baker walked to load the bases with no outs. After Roman Gomez relieved Railroaders' starter Michael Gunn, Matt McCann came back from an 0-2 count to draw a bases loaded walk that forced in Kjerstad to make it 5-1. Romanski followed with a long sacrifice fly to right-centre that drove home Ebert.

McCann walked with one out in the eighth, took second on a wild pitch, and scored the Goldeyes' seventh run when Romanski slugged a double to right-centre.

The Goldeyes took a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the third. Baker drew a one-out walk and moved to second when McCann beat out an infield single. Two batters later, Abercrombie lined a two-out single to right that scored Baker.

Cleburne tied the game in the top of the fifth on a two-out, RBI single from Angel Rosa.

Gunn (3-5) took the loss, allowing six earned runs on nine hits in five-plus innings. Gunn walked three and struck out four.

Jack Charleston and Edwin Carl combined for one and two-thirds scoreless innings in relief of Lambson. Charleston made his 44th appearance of the year, and can match the American Association and Goldeyes' single-season record for appearances with 14 more outings over the Goldeyes' final 24 games.

The series finale is Wednesday night at 7:05 p.m. JC Sulbaran (1-2, 6.12) faces British Columbia native Jared Mortensen (3-5, 3.92).
