Dogs Lose See-Saw Affair 4-3 in First Ever Game in Fargo

Fargo, N.D. - Stephen Perez drove in two runs and Dalton Blaser went 2-4, but the Dogs lost their first ever game at Newman Outdoor Field 4-3 to the Fargo-Moorhead RedHawks Monday night.
In a back-and-forth game that saw two different ties and three lead changes, the RedHawks scored the game-winning run on a wild pitch in the bottom of the seventh.
Chicago delivered the keynote Monday thanks to a two-run single from Perez in the top of the second. Rubi Silva led the frame off with a single, Tony Rosselli followed with a walk, and then both men advanced on a bunt from Blaser before scoring on the Perez knock.
Fargo-Moorhead responded immediately with a two-spot of their own in the home half of the second inning. Charlie Valerio produced an RBI single in the inning, and Yhoxian Medina drove in the second run on a sacrifice fly.
Keury De La Cruz pushed the RedHawks in front with a solo home run in the bottom of the fourth inning, his second in as many games.
The Dogs evened the game in the top of the seventh against Fargo-Moorhead starter Brandon Barker. Blaser singled with one out in the inning to chase Barker from the game, as the RedHawks turned to right-handed reliever Travis Ballew. Perez singled on the first pitch from Ballew, and Mike Falsetti followed with a ten-pitch walk to load the bases with one out. A Kenny Wilson sacrifice fly scored Blaser and pulled Chicago even at 3-3.
The RedHawks would recapture the lead immediately in the bottom of the seventh however, as Tim Colwell led off the inning with a single. Colwell then stole second and third, to bring Devan Ahart to the plate with one out.
Chicago reliever Tommy Thorpe struck Ahart out, but the ball escaped Falsetti behind the plate, and Colwell scored the eventual winning run. The run was charged to Dogs starter Trevor Simms, who began the inning and was pulled from the game following Colwell's single. Simms pitched six and one-third innings, allowing four earned runs, and suffered his second loss of the year.
Geoff Broussard worked a scoreless eighth and ninth innings to earn his fifth save of the year for the RedHawks. With the defeat-their third in a row-Chicago now sees their season record drop to 29-45. Fargo-Moorhead moves to 42-31 with the victory.
Game two of the three-game set between the two teams is scheduled for Tuesday night at Newman Outdoor Field.
First pitch is scheduled for 7:02 p.m. The game will be broadcast at www.thechicagodogs.com/broadcasts/ with the Crowne Plaza Pregame Show beginning at 6:42 p.m.
