LAKEWOOD, N.J. - A run in the 9th inning for Greensboro ruined the shutout, but not the victory, as Lakewood won Game 1 against the Grasshoppers Friday night, 4-1.
Hoby Milner tossed six shutout innings while setting a career-high for strikeouts with eight, as Milner registered his sixth win in 12 starts with Lakewood. Milner finishes the 2012 season with a 6-3 record and a 2.59 ERA while allowing no earned runs in five of his final seven starts (5-1, 1.11 ERA).
Maikel Franco began the scoring for the BlueClaws with an RBI-single in the first inning to give Lakewood the early 1-0 lead. Franco's RBI was his 83rd of the season and he added a double later in the game to go 2-for-4 and raise his batting average in the second half to .339.
The BlueClaws and Grasshoppers square-off in Game 2 of the four-game series. Lakewood will send Moises Rivas (2-2, 6.42) to the mound to battle Greensboro's Jose Urena (9-5, 3.20).
First pitch for Saturday's game is scheduled for 7:05 p.m. Listen to all the action on WOBM 1160-AM and WOBM 1310-AM beginning at 6:50 p.m. with the BlueClaws Beat pre-game show.
