
Black and Bullpen Shut Down Augusta in 4-1 Win

AUGUSTA, GA- Corey Black allowed only one unearned run in five innings to earn his second win as the Charleston RiverDogs dropped the Augusta GreenJackets 4-1 in South Atlantic League action at Lake Olmstead Stadium on Friday night.
The RiverDogs improve their record to 70-63 (31-35 in the second half) with the win. Augusta is now 69-67 (37-30 in the second half).
Black (2-2) was outstanding through five innings, with the only run he allowed being unearned, when Elliot Blair reached on an error in the third inning and later scored on a sacrifice fly by Shawn Payne. The GreenJackets only picked up two hits and no walks against Black, who struck out seven.
After falling behind, Charleston quickly responded to tie the game in the fourth on an RBI double by Casey McGehee against starter Edwin Escobar (7-8). They took the lead the very next inning after loading the bases on a pair of bunt singles sandwiched around a hit batter, and a passed ball scored Ali Castillo with the go-ahead run. Dante Bichette, Jr. tacked on a third run in the eighth with an RBI single to score Eduardo Sosa (1-4, 2 runs), who had tripled. The RiverDogs got the final run of the night in the ninth when Cito Culver (2-5, RBI) knocked in Cody Grice with a single for a 4-1 lead.
John Brebbia took over the pitching chore for Charleston in the sixth and held the lead with two scoreless innings that included three strikeouts. Fred Lewis pitched a perfect eighth and Pedro Guerra earned his ninth save by throwing up another zero in the ninth.
The series continues Saturday with game two starting at 7:05 pm. The RiverDogs will throw RHP Cesar Vargas (0-0, 3.86 ERA) against LHP Danny Sandbrink (0-0, 1.13 ERA).
