Hagerstown Suns News Release

Hagerstown, MD - The Hagerstown Suns (81-53/39-26) used a 4-3 win over the Asheville Tourists (79-57/33-33), and a Hickory Crawdads loss at Greensboro, to clinch the second half championship in the South Atlantic League's Northern Division and a playoff berth.

Suns starting pitcher Blake Schwartz did not factor in the decision but delivered a quality start, dealing six innings while allowing just one run on five hits without walking a batter and striking out seven. Greg Holt (5-2) earned the win out of the bullpen and Richie Mirowski (3) the save.

Right fielder J.R. Higley went 2-for-3 with a double and an RBI while Justin Miller was 2-for-4 with an RBI. Cutter Dykstra's seventh inning RBI single proved to be the game winner.

The Suns qualify for the South Atlantic League playoffs for the first time since 2005 when the team reached the Northern Division Championship Series. Hagerstown will face the first half champion Greensboro Grasshoppers in a best-of-three game series to determine the Northern Division champion. Game one will be held at Hagerstown's Municipal Stadium on Wednesday, September 5th, while games two and three (if necessary) will be played at NewBridge Bank Park in North Carolina on September 7th & 8th. Game times to be determined.

The Suns will play game two of their series with the Tourists on Saturday night at 7:05 p.m. RHP Dixon Anderson (0-1, 5.79) will toe the rubber against Asheville's RHP Alex Gillingham (6-7, 3.80).

Suns individual game tickets, season tickets, mini-plans, and group packages are on sale now. For more information and to reserve your seat at Municipal Stadium, call 301-791-6266, or www.hagerstownsuns.com. The Hagerstown Suns are owned by Hagerstown Baseball, LLC.
