Kannapolis Cannon Ballers News Release

Kannapolis, NC – At the end of a wild night, the Intimidators couldn't complete a wild comeback, leaving the tying runs at first and second in a 6-4 loss. Took a 6-1 lead with two runs in the seventh and three runs in the eighth. All five runs came off Intimidators relievers including the losing pitcher Gio Gonzalez (2-2). The 19-year old lefty came of the disabled list this afternoon and threw to five batters in the seventh, striking out one, walking three, and allowing two runs to score on an error at third.

The I's (17-17) came up short in the ninth, but hours earlier it didn't look like the game was going to get that far. As dark storm clouds rolled in and thunder clapped beyond the trees in left field, the I's played through a driving rain in the fourth, fifth, and part of the sixth inning. Down 1-0 in the bottom of the fifth, it looked like Lakewood would get an abbreviated 1-0 win if the I's could not score. That's when leadoff hitter Chris Kelly ripped his third home run in four days over the left field wall to tie the game at one.

Right handed reliever Nathan Johnson (2-1) got the win in relief. There was no save. Intimidator outfielder Clint King extended a hit streak to seven games with a 3-5 night and an RBI. The I's now take to the road and play at West Virginia tomorrow. The Power go into tomorrow's game 9-23 seventh in the Northern Division.
