Lake County Captains News Release
(Asheville, NC)âJustin Hoyman picked up his first win since the season opener, and Fernando Pacheco and Argenis Reyes had RBI's Thursday as the Lake County Captains posted a 3-1 win over the Asheville Tourists at McCormick Field.
The win gave the Captains (18-15) a split in the four-game series with the Tourists (18-15). Asheville won the first two games of the series on Monday and Tuesday.
The Captains jumped to a 2-0 lead in the second inning against Asheville starter Sam Deduno, who entered the game with a 1.78 ERA. After back-to-back walks to Mike Butia and Matt Whitney, Pacheco stroked a double to right, scoring Butia. The hit extended Pacheco's hitting streak to nine games. After another walk loaded the bases, Deduno hit Juan Valdes to force in Whitney.
In the fourth, Deduno left the game with a muscle strain after hitting Chris Gimenez with one out. Reliever Jarrett Grube came on and picked Gimenez off first, but walked Marshall Szabo. Valdes reached base on a catcher's interference, and Reye' followed with an RBI single to right to score Szabo to make it 3-0.
Hoyman (2-0) enjoyed one of his best games of the season, holding the Tourists to two hits over the first six innings. In the seventh, he allowed a run on three consecutive singles before turning things over to righthander Adrian Schau. Schau retired Nelson Robledo and Neil Wilson on pop-ups to end the inning.
Schau tossed a scoreless eighth inning, and Bo Ashabraner worked around a lead-off single in the ninth to earn his first save of the season.
The Captains now move on to the second leg of the eight-game road trip, and will open a series in Hickory on Friday evening at 7:00 (WELW AM 1330).
