Hagerstown Suns News Release
The Hagerstown Suns return home to Municipal Stadium on Friday, May 13th. The four-game homestand features the first-place Hagerstown Suns vs. the second-place Greensboro Grasshoppers, single A affiliate of the Florida Marlins.
Friday's game is another U.S. Cellular "Friday Night Fireworks" featuring the Tri-State area's best fireworks show immediately following the game. Friday's fireworks show is co-sponsored by WILD 96.7fm. Gametime is 6:35pm.
On Saturday, May 14th, the Hagerstown Suns will be hosting "Star Wars Night." Fans are encouraged to dress up as Star Wars characters as a prize will be awarded to the best Star Wars costume. Other events will include a "Best Wookie Call," a "Use the Force" contest and Star Wars trivia. Free tickets to the new Star Wars movie, "Revenge of the Sith," will be awarded as well as free rentals of old Star Wars movies courtesy of Video Warehouse. Gametime is 6:35pm.
On Sunday, May 15th, the Hagerstown Suns will present the first ever "Shoeless Joe Jackson Day" at Municipal Stadium. During the game, the Suns will attempt to set a Guinness World Record for "the most shoeless people at a baseball game." Fans will be asked to remove their shoes for one half-inning during the game as the Suns staff totals up the bare feet. The Suns batboy, Joe Bender and Suns broadcaster Joe Moore will also pay tribute to the baseball legend by working the game "shoeless."
"We might inherently also set the record for the world's smelliest game as well," quipped Suns General Manager Kurt Landes. "But this is a fun way to encourage fans to bring extra pairs of shoes to the game that we'll be donating to Horizon Goodwill." Donation boxes will be set up inside the Suns main stadium entrance as well as at Fan Services.
Sundays also feature post-game Kids Run the Bases thanks to Antietam Cable Advertising, pre-game story time with Suns players for kids ages 1-7 presented by the Washington County Arts Council and "Ice Cream Sundays" sponsored by Maugansville Creamery. Plus, every Sunday is also a Herald-Mail Family Sunday where families of 4 can receive 4 hot dogs, sodas, popcorns and tickets (a $52 value) for only $25 with a coupon from Saturday or Sunday's Herald-Mail. Gametime is 1:35pm.
Monday, May 16th, the Suns will feature another "Feed Your Face Monday," courtesy of Ryan's Restaurant, Ney York Pizzeria & Pub and Cool 97.5fm. Ticket prices are $10 or $12, but food inside the ballpark is free all night long! Gametime is 6:35pm.
The Suns are the single A affiliate of the New York Mets and are owned by Los Angeles based Mandalay Baseball Properties. For more information or to purchase tickets, contact the Suns at 301.791.6266 or visit us online at www.hagerstownsuns.com.
