Lake Erie Storms Past Rippers

AVON, OHIO - Three Lake Erie (22-21) pitchers combined on a four-hitter as the Crushers' stomped the London Rippers (17-26), 5-2.

Crushers' starter, Paul Fagan (4-3) kept the Rippers to three hits through six innings, allowing two runs and striking out two. Jonathan Kountis recorded his 8th save.

London was the first team on the board in this one. Mark Samuelson's sacrifice fly in the top of the 1st, scored Clifton Thomas and gave London a 1-0 advantage.

Jason Taylor tied the game at 1-1 with his 6th homer of the year in the bottom of the 1st .

London's second run of the game came on a strikeout to Shane Bagley in the 3rd . The ball got past catcher, Brian Erie, allowing Aaron Glaum to hustle home from 2nd base.

Wally Correa tied the game, scoring on a Russell Moldenhauer sacrifice fly in the 3rd .

Adrian Ortiz singled home two runs in the 4th, launching Lake Erie ahead 4-2.

Moldenhauer, Lake Erie's DH, smacked his 18th double of the season in the 7th, scoring J.C. Figeroa and finishing the scoring at 5-2.

Sheng-An Kuo (0-5) gave up five hits and four runs in 5.1 innings tonight. He struggled with his command, walking six and striking out one.

London and Lake Erie renew their rivalry tomorrow night in Game 2 of their three-game series.

Yohan Gonzalez (3-2 2.21) gets the start for London against Trevor Longfellow (3-2 4.01). The game starts at 7:05pm.
