Lake Erie Crushers News Release

AVON, Ohio -- The Lake Erie Crushers split their double header on Friday night at All Pro Freight Stadium, taking game one, 3-0, before falling to the Frontier Greys, 2-0 in game two.

The split for the Crushers (29-39) marks the fourth time that they've split a twin bill this season, while the split for the Greys (33-36) gives them two wins in three tries against the Crushers this season.

Runs were very difficult for both teams to come by all evening long. The Greys spoiled a number of chances to score in the first contest, as Brad Duffy (6-3) worked his magic and battled through five innings to get the win in a game where the Lake Erie pitching staff struck out 11 batters.

The Greys had the bases loaded with nobody out in the first inning of game one, before Duffy struck out the next three batters to keep them off the board. In the second, they left a runner at third, and they had runners at second and third in the third inning with nobody out, before Duffy worked his magic and retired the next three batters to end the threat.

Trevor Stevens started the Lake Erie rally in the bottom of the fifth inning with a one out single to center. Austin Prott followed with a walk, and Chandler Brock singled to right to load the bases for Anderson Hidalgo. Hidalgo responded with a three-run double down the left field line to snap the scoreless tie.

Duffy scored the victory for the Crushers in game one, tossing five scoreless innings of five hit ball and struck out eight batters, while Trevor Longfellow (12) earned the save with a perfect inning of relief.

Brock and Stevens paced the Crushers offensively in game one, both going 2-for-3 with a pair of singles.

The roles were reversed in game two, as the Crushers squandered many chances to score, and were never able to recover. The Greys scored their first run in the top of the first. Brandon Tierney was hit by Jason Wilson's (1-4) 1-2 pitch, before making his way to second on a walk issued to Scott Carcaise and he scored on Dillon Haupt's single.

Lake Erie left Brock stranded at third in the bottom of the first inning, before leaving Emmanuel Quiles at second in the second. Quiles tripled with one out in the fourth but never scored, and Brock reached on a leadoff double in the sixth, but was later left stranded at third.

The Greys added a big insurance run in the top of the seventh on a two-out RBI double off the bat of Jhiromar Veras.

Justin D'Allesandro (5-5) scored the win for the Greys in game two, after tossing 6.2 scoreless innings on just four hits with four strikeouts. Nick McBride (3) came on for the save while Wilson took the loss, after allowing just a run on one hit over four innings of work in his first game since June 17.

Quiles paced the Crushers offensively in game two, going 2-for-2 with a triple, a single and a walk.

The Crushers will continue their five game series with the Frontier Greys at All Pro Freight Stadium on Saturday night. Lefty Kolby Moore (1-2, 4.74) will start for the Crushers. The first pitch is scheduled for 7:05 PM.
