Lake County Captains News Release
(Dayton, OH) - The Lake County Captains (2-2, 33-40) scored two runs in the sixth inning and that proved to be the knockout blow to the Dayton Dragons (0-4,30-44). The Captains won the game 8-3. In the sixth, the bases were loaded with zero outs, and Alex Monsalve hit a single to right field, that scored one run and the score at the time was 6-0 Captains. Lake County got another run in the inning when Bryson Myles was hit by a pitch and that forced in another run and Lake County led 7-0.
Lake County scored early. In the first inning, Jose Ramirez led off the ballgame with a single and motored to third when Fransisco Lindor singled. Luigi Rodriguez hit a fly ball to right field and Ramirez scored. The sacrifice fly gave the Captains the 1-0 lead in the ballgame. With two outs, Alex Monsalve hit a single to right field and that scored Lindor and Lake County led 2-0.
In the second inning, Lake County added on. Leonardo Castillo singled to begin the inning and Jose Ramirez laid down a sacrifice bunt, the throw went down the right field line and Ramirez went to second base and Castillo went all the way to third. Jordan Smith hit a ball on the ground to short and it was misplayed by Juan Perez, the second error of the inning, plated two more runs and the Captains took a 4-0 lead into the third inning.
The Captains added a run in that third inning and took a five to nothing lead. Castillo doubled and moved to third on a wild pitch. Jose Ramirez got his first RBI as a Captain after singling home Castillo and the score was 5-0 Lake County.
Dayton got on the board in the bottom of the sixth inning when they plated an un-earned run. Ryan Wright doubled to left with one out. Kyle Waldrop then lifted a fly ball to left field and Bryson Myles dropped it. Wright stopped at third base, but scored on a ground out by Nick O'Shea, and the score was 7-1 Captains. Dayton scored two more in the bottom of the seventh and the runs were both un-earned again. Juan Perez singled and moved to third on a two base throwing error when Yorman Rodriguez hit a grounder to third base. Both Perez, and Rodriguez scored on a Ryan Wright double and the score was 7-3 Captains.
Lake County added a run in the ninth. With two outs and two on, Jordan Smith singled to right field and Lindor scored. Lake County led 8-3. Manager Delino Deshilds and Sean Buckley of the Dragons were ejected in the second inning of play. The duo was arguing balls and strikes. Clay Park ejected both Dragons.
RHP Cody Anderson (4-4) took to the mound for Lake County. Cody did not get the decision. Cody pitched three innings, he allowed two hits, and two walks. Anderson struck out four. Mason Radeke (5-1) earned the win after pitching three and two thirds innings he scattered six hits and allowed three un-earned runs. Radeke walked one and struck out four. Rob Nixon finished the game for the Captains Nixon pitched two and one third innings and did not allow a run and struck out two.
LHP Tanner Robles (4-5) started the game for Dayton and took the loss. Robles pitched five innings and allowed five runs. Only three of the runs were earned, Robles allowed eight hits and two walks. Robles fanned four on the night. The Bullpen for the Dragons did not supply much relief as three pitchers combined to allow six hits, three runs, two earned and three walks.
The Captains will continue the six game road trip Tuesday Night in Dayton, Ohio vs. the Dragons. Lake County will send LHP Shawn Morimando (2-1, 3.98) to the hill. The Dragons will counter with RHP Stalin Gerson (3-5, 4.64) who will get the start. First pitch is scheduled for 7:00pm
