CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa (6/25/12) - The Burlington Bees (36-37, 4-0) played another close and earned a 4-to- 2 victory over the Cedar Rapids Kernels (33-41, 1-3). The win gives the Bees their sixth consecutive victory, which is the longest current streak in the Midwest League.

The Bees are also one game under .500, which is a record they haven't enjoyed since May 13. They haven't owned a .500 record since they defeated Cedar Rapids on May 11 to bring their record to 17-17. The Bees are also the only undefeated team in the second half of the season and own the best record in the Midwest League.

A.J. Cole made his seventh start for the Bees and second against the Kernels. Cole beat the Kernels earlier in June, but had to battle through five innings to earn a win on Monday. Cole used a lot pitches to survive trouble in the first three innings.

Still, the right--hander's fastball looked good despite allowing a solo home run in the second to Abel Baker. Cole (3-0) earned the win after pitching five innings with three strikeouts and allowed four hits and one home run.

The Bees took the lead in the fourth inning with a two-out rally. After Frank De Jiulio held the Bees hitless through the first 3.2 innings, Eliezer Mesa put down an infield bunt single that woke up the offense. Rashun Dixon and Max Muncy walked to load the bases for Bobby Crocker. Crocker hammered a pitch off the left-cen- terfield wall for a bases clearing triple. Crocker finished the game with two hits in four at bats and remains one of the hottest hitters on the Bees' roster.

Jose Macias record two outs in the sixth, but allowed a solo home run to Gary Mitchell to shorten the Bees' lead to 3-to-2. Macias' earned run ended the bullpens 19 scoreless innings streak. But Macias and Urlaub pre- served the Bees' lead and provided four solid innings out of the pen.

The Bees also scored an insurance run in the ninth with two outs and Dixon at third. Nick Rickles hit a soft ground ball that never left the infield grass, but confused the defense. Urlaub earned his second save of the year and in as many days. The Bees won with a final score of 4-to-2.

The Bees try to win their seventh straight game when they commute to Cedar Rapids to play the Kernels at 6:35 p.m. on Tuesday night. For information on Bees baseball call (319) 754-5705 or visit www.gobees.com.
