(Comstock Park, MI) - The Lake County Captains completed two victories today, winning last night's suspended game and a nine-inning contest by the scores of 7-4 and 6-3 respectively on a sunny Sunday afternoon at LMCU Ballpark.

The Captains finished this series where they began it, with a one-game lead over the West Michigan Whitecaps in the Midwest League East Second Half Standings.

In the continued game, the Captains tacked on two insurance runs, after having a 5-2 lead through six innings. In the seventh, Milan Tolentino was hit by a pitch, stole second, and scored from second base on a wild pitch. Mike Amditis in the eighth, plated Connor Kokx with a sacrifice fly to right field.

In relief, Raymond Burgos worked two scoreless innings, allowing just one hit. Jack DeGroat entered in the eighth and after two walks allowed a two-run double. Alaska Abney then came in stranded a Whitecap on second and would pitch a 1-2-3 ninth, earning five outs and his second save of 2022.

In the series finale, both teams donned their Copa de La Diversion uniforms. It was a matchup of Picantes de Lake County and Calaveras de West Michigan.

Aaron Davenport made his twentieth start of the year and was masterful. Despite allowing a season-high 10 hits, he went a career-best 6.2 innings. The right-hander left nine West Michigan players in total and accumulated five strikeouts. The lone Calaveras de West Michigan tally was pushed across in the third, though Davenport stranded the bases loaded in that frame.

Lake County scored three runs in the fourth inning and three in the fifth inning. Connor Kokx extended his on-base streak to 10 games with a two-run single and Aaron Bracho doubled home Kokx, in the fourth. Christian Cairo singled in the fifth moved to third on a wild pitch and was brought across home plate by Joe Naranjo on a sacrifice fly to right field.

The big blast that distanced the game came from Alexfri Planez, he hit a towering two-run homer to deep right field. It was the 21-year-old's seventeenth longball of the season and made it 6-1.

Lake County's bullpen helped secure the win. Zach Hart came on in the seventh with two outs and two on and got a strikeout to finish the inning. Despite walking two in the eighth, the right-hander did not permit a run in 1.1 innings.

Matt Turner took the ninth. With two on and one out, he allowed an infield single, where an errant throw brought home a run. Turner appeared shaken up after making contact with the runner when trying to cover first and was removed for Trey Benton. Benton gave up a single but nothing more and struck out the potential tying run at the plate to end the game.

Following an off-day, the Lake County Captains will begin a six-game home series against the Cedar Rapids Kernels at Classic Park. First pitch from Tuesday, August 23rd through Saturday, August 27th will be at 6:35 p.m. Sunday's game will start at 1:00 p.m.
